Homemade Hummus Recipe
Ingredients
1 cup dried chickpeas (or 2 cups canned chickpeas)
½ teaspoon baking soda (if soaking and cooking dried chickpeas)
½ cup high quality tahini
Juice of ½ lemon (or to taste)
1–2 garlic cloves, crushed
½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
½ teaspoon ground cumin
About ⅔ cup cold water (or chickpea cooking liquid), as needed
Instructions
1. Prepare the Chickpeas
If using dried chickpeas, soak them overnight in plenty of water with the baking soda.
The next day, rinse them well and cook for about 1½ hours, or until they are very soft.
2. Drain
Drain the chickpeas and reserve some of the cooking liquid if desired.
3. Blend
Place the chickpeas in a food processor along with:
Garlic
Lemon juice
Tahini
Cumin
Salt
Blend until smooth.
4. Add Liquid
Gradually add cold water (or the reserved cooking liquid) while blending until the hummus reaches a smooth, creamy consistency.
5. Adjust Seasoning
Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed, adding more lemon juice, salt, or cumin according to your preference.
Serving Suggestions
Transfer the hummus to a serving plate and drizzle with olive oil.
For extra flavor and presentation, sprinkle with:
Paprika
Ground cumin

Za'atar
