Guinness World Record (illustration)Most people reach for a calculator the moment they encounter a difficult math problem. After all, adding long strings of numbers or multiplying large figures in your head is no easy task.
But for one teenager from India, calculations that would leave most people scrambling for a calculator take only seconds—and he does them entirely in his head.
Meet Aaryan Nitin Shukla, a 17-year-old mathematical prodigy whose astonishing mental calculation abilities have earned him international recognition, multiple world records, and the nickname "The Human Calculator."
Six World Records in One Day
In February 2025, Guinness World Records announced that Aaryan had achieved an extraordinary feat during a series of mental calculation challenges held in Dubai.
In a single day, he broke six separate world records, demonstrating a level of speed and accuracy that stunned both judges and spectators.
Among his remarkable achievements:
Adding 100 four-digit numbers in just 30.9 seconds
Adding 200 four-digit numbers in 1 minute and 9 seconds
Multiplying five-digit and eight-digit numbers at record-breaking speed
Completing several additional mental arithmetic challenges faster than anyone before him
Videos of his performances quickly spread online, with many viewers amazed that he appeared to reach the answers faster than someone could enter the numbers into a calculator.
The Secret Behind His Speed
Aaryan says his abilities did not appear overnight.
According to his family, he has been training for years and dedicates between five and six hours each day to practicing mental mathematics. Alongside his calculations, he also uses meditation techniques inspired by yoga to improve concentration, focus, and mental clarity.
When asked how he manages to solve such complex problems so quickly, his answer was surprisingly simple:
"You don't think about it—you just calculate."
That effortless response reflects years of disciplined practice that have turned incredibly complex calculations into something almost automatic.
More Than Just Numbers
Despite his exceptional talent, Aaryan's life is not entirely centered around mathematics.
Like many teenagers his age, he enjoys reading, traveling, playing video games, and spending time playing cricket.
His parents have emphasized the importance of maintaining balance, ensuring that his extraordinary abilities do not come at the expense of a normal childhood and adolescence.
Training the Mind
Experts often compare mental calculation at this level to elite athletic performance. Just as professional athletes spend years strengthening their muscles, mental calculators train their brains through constant repetition, memory exercises, and concentration techniques.
Aaryan's success highlights an important lesson: natural talent may open the door, but dedication, discipline, and consistent practice are what allow someone to reach the highest levels of achievement.
For now, the teenager known as "The Human Calculator" continues to amaze audiences around the world—proving that the human mind is capable of far more than most of us imagine.
