Ingredients

For the Chocolate Cake

  • 1 cup self-rising flour

  • ½ cup cocoa powder

  • ¾ cup sugar

  • 3 eggs

  • ½ cup oil

  • ¾ cup milk

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • ½ teaspoon salt

For the Surprise Filling

  • ½ cup chocolate chips or mini colorful chocolate candies

  • ½ cup mini marshmallows

  • 4 tablespoons peanut butter (optional)

For the Decoration

  • 100 g (3.5 oz) dark chocolate

  • ¼ cup heavy cream

  • Colorful sprinkles or powdered sugar

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

Grease a 22 cm (9-inch) round cake pan or a loaf pan.

Prepare the Batter

In a large bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt.

Add the eggs, oil, milk, and vanilla extract. Mix until a smooth, uniform batter forms.

Add the Surprise Center

Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan.

Sprinkle the chocolate chips, mini marshmallows, and peanut butter (if using) evenly over the center layer.

Cover with the remaining batter.

Bake

Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted near the edge of the cake comes out clean.

The center may remain slightly soft because of the surprise filling.

Make the Chocolate Ganache

Melt the dark chocolate and heavy cream together in the microwave or over a double boiler.

Stir until smooth and glossy.

Decorate the Cake

Allow the cake to cool slightly.

Pour the ganache over the top and spread evenly.

Finish with colorful sprinkles or a dusting of powdered sugar.

Tips

  • The surprise filling stays hidden in the center, so every slice reveals a fun and slightly different surprise.

  • Feel free to customize the filling with your children's favorite treats, such as:

    • Crushed cookies

    • Dried fruit

    • Caramel chips

    • Candy pieces
