Date and Apple Charoset Recipe: A Sweet, Flavorful Passover Favorite

Made with crisp green apples, rich date spread, crunchy nuts, and warm spices, this simple homemade charoset delivers the perfect balance of sweetness, texture, and tradition for your Seder table

Ingredients

  • 3 green apples

  • 250 g (9 oz) date spread

  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

  • ½ cup chopped almonds

  • 1 tablespoon sweet red wine

  • 2 tablespoons silan (date syrup)

  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves

  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • ½ teaspoon ground cardamom

  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest

  • A pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Peel the apples and grate them coarsely.

  2. In a large bowl, combine the grated apples with the date spread, walnuts, almonds, sweet red wine, silan, cloves, nutmeg, cardamom, lemon zest, and salt.

  3. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.

  4. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
