Anwar Gargash, an adviser to UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, emphasized today (Thursday) that “the Iranian regime cannot dictate terms to the Gulf states.” That was reported in “Israel Hayom.”

The senior Emirati official added: “It is impossible to impose a new geopolitical reality on the Arab Gulf states as a result of treacherous aggression against them. Imposing a fait accompli born of aggression will not create stability, but will instead plant the seeds of new disagreement and conflict in the future. That is exactly what applies to the Strait of Hormuz.”

It should be noted that the United Arab Emirates has publicly expressed its opposition to the memorandum of understanding with Iran, in its current form. Along with Bahrain and Kuwait, it lodged complaints about it with the White House. Over the past day, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited the UAE.

Rubio continued today to a meeting with senior Bahraini officials and issued a brief statement: “In Abu Dhabi, we discussed President Trump’s memorandum of understanding with Iran, efforts to ensure full and safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, and regional stability. I thanked the leadership of the United Arab Emirates for their unprecedented support and praised their courage and resilience in the face of the new attacks. I reiterated our commitment to the security of the United Arab Emirates and to our partnership.”
