Despite the ceasefire with Iran and Hezbollah, and the security framework agreement signed over the weekend with Lebanon, the government today (Monday) approved a 45-day extension of the special emergency situation on the home front. The decision leaves broad powers in the hands of the IDF and Home Front Command, based on the assessment that the threat to Israel’s civilian home front has still not passed and that there remains a real possibility of further escalation.

In the government decision that was published, it was written: "On June 26, 2026, an agreement was signed between Israel and the State of Lebanon, but even as of this hour, fighting is taking place against the Hezbollah organization."

The decision stated that "there is uncertainty regarding the situation in the Iran and Lebanon arenas. According to the assessment of security officials, there is still a high probability that an attack on the civilian population will occur." Because of this, it was decided to continue granting the security authorities exceptional tools that make it possible to prepare quickly for any scenario.

Under the special emergency situation on the home front, the IDF and Home Front Command will continue to hold broad powers beyond routine conditions. Among other things, they will be able to instruct the public to remain in protected spaces and take precautionary measures, restrict the activity of educational institutions, direct aid organizations, and issue additional instructions as needed in order to protect human life and save lives.

The government decision came alongside remarks by a senior American official, who told the Saudi channel Al-Hadath that contacts between Israel and Lebanon are continuing. He noted that "the talks between Lebanon and Israel are taking place, and we are continuing to assist in them. The talks will resume tomorrow."
