The London based newspaper Asharq Al Awsat reported on Sunday that Iran is preparing to take legal action against Israel and the United States over what it described as the "assassination of Ali Khamenei."

"The process of filing the complaint has begun following the collection of evidence and documentation. The Presidential Legal Office, in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry, is pursuing this case with great seriousness," Iranian government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani told reporters.

Meanwhile, ceremonies continued in Tehran ahead of the funeral of the former Supreme Leader, scheduled for Thursday. Khamenei was killed by Israel at the start of Operation Roaring Lion.

Among the delegations paying their respects was a Hamas delegation led by Khalil al Hayya.

Khamenei's son, Mojtaba Khamenei, who was reportedly wounded during the attack and was later announced by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as his father's successor, did not attend the ceremonies. His three brothers, however, were seen at the event.

The Iranian regime stated that Mojtaba would not attend the funeral out of concern that his hiding place could be revealed to "the enemy." Iranian opposition groups, however, claim that Mojtaba Khamenei is no longer alive.
