"Until I became more observant and started dressing modestly, I didn't even know there was such a thing as the yetzer hara. When did I really begin to recognize it? When I started dressing modestly."
That is how former model and actress Linor Abargil described a turning point in her spiritual journey in a video she recently shared with her followers. In recent years, Abargil has embraced a more observant lifestyle, and in the video she spoke openly about the inner battle that accompanied that change.
"The Yetzer Hara Was Constantly Whispering to Me"
According to Abargil, the yetzer hara confronted her with a steady stream of self doubt and criticism.
"The yetzer hara sat on my shoulder every day, telling me I wasn't beautiful, that I was ugly, that I had no style, that I looked old. Every day it told me my clothes weren't flattering, that this wasn't really me. It kept telling me I wanted to wear jeans and a T shirt, asking, 'Who are you trying to fool?' Day after day, it kept telling me how unattractive I looked."
"If You're Struggling, It Means You're Growing"
Abargil said it was during that difficult period that she discovered her inner strength.
"The yetzer hara kept asking me who I thought I was fooling. So if that's happening to you, know that you're on the right path. It means you're growing. It means you're doing something right, because otherwise it wouldn't come and fill your mind with all those negative thoughts."
She concluded with a message of encouragement for anyone facing similar struggles.
"If you were doing exactly what it wanted, it wouldn't bother you at all. Just remember that you are good. Even if you're only doing a little, you are the best in the world. That little bit can be worth a fortune."
