If the trip takes place, Netanyahu is also expected to meet with President Donald Trump.
The possible visit reflects the close relationship that developed over many years between Netanyahu and Graham. The longtime Republican senator was one of the most outspoken pro-Israel voices in the U.S. Congress and worked closely with the prime minister on key security and diplomatic issues, particularly confronting Iran, strengthening Israel’s security, and combating terrorism.
Throughout his years in office, Graham made frequent visits to Israel, meeting with prime ministers, presidents, senior defense officials, and the families of hostages. Even during some of Israel’s most challenging security crises, including the Swords of Iron war, he traveled to the country to express his support and demonstrate solidarity with the Israeli people.
One of the defining causes of Graham’s public career was confronting Iran. For years, he warned about the threat posed by Iran’s advancing nuclear program, opposed the 2015 nuclear agreement, and repeatedly called for tougher measures against Tehran over its support for Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and Shiite militias across the Middle East.
Graham was also a leading advocate for U.S. security assistance to Israel. He strongly supported continued funding for Israel’s missile defense systems, including Iron Dome, and backed efforts to expand defense cooperation and accelerate the transfer of critical weapons systems to Israel.
