Two Suspects Arrested in Alleged Plot for an Imminent Attack in Jerusalem

In a joint operation by the Israel Security Agency, Jerusalem Border Police undercover units, Border Police fighters from the Jerusalem envelope, and Israel Police forces, two residents of the Shuafat refugee camp were arrested yesterday (Tuesday) on suspicion of planning to carry out an attack in Jerusalem in the immediate time frame. The operation, carried out under the direction of the Shin Bet and led by regional command, also included assistance from the Israel Police air unit and ended without unusual incidents.

According to a police statement, the forces initially operated covertly inside the Shuafat refugee camp and later shifted to open activity. As part of the operation, a coordinated raid was carried out on two buildings simultaneously, where the two suspects were located and arrested in their homes.

Police said the suspects, residents of the Shuafat refugee camp, were arrested after intelligence was received indicating that they were planning to carry out an attack in Jerusalem in the near future. After the arrests were completed and the operational activity concluded, all forces left the area without unusual incidents.

In the police statement, it was emphasized that the operation was carried out in close cooperation among all security bodies, with the undercover activity directed by the Israel Security Agency. Alongside the Jerusalem Border Police undercover units, Border Police fighters from the Jerusalem envelope, additional police forces, and the Israel Police air unit also took part in the activity, providing assistance during the operation.

The two detainees were transferred at the end of the operation for further investigation by the Israel Security Agency, which is examining the circumstances of the case and the suspicions attributed to them. Police commented on the operation: "Border Police fighters, together with all security forces, will continue to act decisively to thwart terrorism, arrest wanted suspects, and safeguard the security of the citizens of the State of Israel."
