Missile Fired From Iran Toward Jordan Echoes in Eilat, Flight Forced to Hold Midair

Iran launched a missile today (Wednesday) toward the city of Aqaba in southern Jordan. Following the launch, echoes of explosions were also heard in Eilat, and residents in the city reported blast sounds. The missile was successfully intercepted by the United States military, and the plumes of smoke documented in the Aqaba area were reportedly caused by interception debris. 

Jordan’s military announced that its air defense systems identified six missiles launched from Iran. According to the military, four of them were successfully intercepted, while two others fell and exploded in remote, unpopulated areas.

Because of the incident, an Arkia flight that was on its way to land at Ramon Airport was forced to turn around in the air until the situation became clear.

The Eilat Municipality said: "Following the echoes of explosions heard over the past hour in Eilat as a result of missile fire from Iran toward the nearby city of Aqaba, security forces continue to scan the surrounding open areas to rule out the possibility of falling interception debris. As of now, no impacts have been identified, and there are no reports of injuries or damage".
