As Tensions Rise, Herzog Speaks With Bahrain’s King About the Region’s Future

President Isaac Herzog spoke today (Sunday) with the King of Bahrain, Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. The conversation focused on relations between the two countries, the latest developments in the Middle East, and the importance both countries place on continued regional cooperation. According to reports in Bahrain, the initiative to hold the call and make it public was led by the King of Bahrain.

The call took place against the backdrop of diplomatic and security developments in the region, after reports said that the U.S. and Iran had submitted their responses to a Pakistani-Qatari proposal to renew talks between them. At the same time, the "New York Times" reported that senior Trump administration officials had decided, at this stage, not to significantly expand the military campaign against Iran.

In a statement released after the call, President Herzog said: “I just spoke with His Majesty the King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. In our conversation, we discussed strengthening the friendship and growing ties between Israel and Bahrain, as well as the importance of the Abraham Accords, led by the United States, in reinforcing security, stability, and prosperity across the entire Middle East. We also spoke about the latest developments and the importance of cooperation and dialogue among the countries of the region.”

It was also stated: “Bahrain is an important partner in shaping the future of the Middle East. I congratulated the King on his courageous leadership and vision, and expressed my appreciation for his contribution to deepening peace, stability, and cooperation between our countries.”
