A $1 Billion Milestone: Israeli Naval Weapons System Now Used by 25 Navies Worldwide

Rafael marked a major milestone on Tuesday with the delivery of its 1,000th Typhoon system—the firing system for the Typhoon naval gun, considered one of the company’s leading naval firepower systems. The system is in operational service with the Israeli Navy and is also used by 25 additional navies and maritime forces around the world.

According to Rafael, the Typhoon system is now installed on a wide range of naval platforms and is used, among others, by the United States, Canada, and Australia. The system is designed to address a broad range of threats in the maritime arena, combining advanced detection, identification, and fire-control capabilities that enable a fast and precise response.

The Israeli Navy has operated Typhoon and Mini-Typhoon systems since 2000. As part of the ongoing partnership between Rafael and the navy, 30 mm Typhoon naval weapon stations were also recently delivered. These systems are intended to strengthen the defensive and offensive capabilities of operational vessels, including Sa'ar 6 ships.

Rafael said the modernization of the naval weapons array is expected to continue in the coming years. As part of that effort, additional systems are expected to enter service to replace older systems currently installed on Israeli Navy vessels. At the same time, the integration of Mini-Typhoon systems into the navy’s operational array is planned to expand.

The system was developed to address both maritime and airborne threats, including surface targets, small and fast vessels, and low-signature threats. Among other things, it is designed to counter UAVs and drones through advanced tracking and fire-control systems that assist in the rapid detection, identification, and precise interception of targets.
