The IDF Spokesperson said Sunday afternoon that the IDF struck in the Gaza City area yesterday and killed Alaa Imad Khamis Taramsi, an operative affiliated with the Army of Islam organization. The terror group is identified with Salafi-jihadist ideology. The organization is based in the Sabra neighborhood in central Gaza City.
Operatives from the group took part in the kidnapping of soldier Gilad Shalit, the abduction of BBC reporter Alan Johnston, and the arson attack on the American school in Gaza. The group was initially close to Hamas, but later distanced itself from it.
The IDF also announced that it killed Hassan Ibrahim Shehadeh Kahman, an operative in Islamic Jihad. In another strike in northern Gaza, Ahmad Khadri, an operative in Hamas's Jabalia Battalion, was killed.
The IDF said the three operatives had sought to advance terror plots against IDF forces and Israeli civilians, and were killed to remove the threat. Meanwhile, Palestinians reported that the IDF had killed 14 operatives across the Gaza Strip since the morning hours.
