Israel to Approve $700 Million Emergency Defense Procurement Boost

At its weekly meeting today (Sunday), the government will approve an additional 2.6 billion shekels for the Defense Ministry. The budget is designated for urgent, classified defense procurement intended to meet the defense establishment’s armament needs, against the backdrop of continued fighting across all fronts.

The decision was approved by the Ministerial Committee for Procurement and will now be brought before the government for approval. Under the decision, the funding will come from changes to the 2026 state budget: 1.5 billion shekels will be deducted from the budget allocated for interest and fee payments, while another 1.1 billion shekels will be cut from the operational budgets and commitments of government ministries.

According to a report by Channel 14 News, it was determined that if the 2026 state budget receives final approval in the Knesset, the cuts to government ministries may be canceled, with the funding instead coming from a designated budget item established in previous government decisions.
