IDF Strikes Hamas Cell Leader in Gaza Said to Be Planning Attack on Troops
The IDF carried out an airstrike on a Hamas cell leader in northern Gaza who, according to the military, was planning attacks against Israeli forces. It was the first strike of its kind since targeted assassinations were halted. The IDF said: "We will continue to act to remove any immediate threat."

The IDF carried out an airstrike Wednesday evening against the leader of a Hamas terrorist organization cell in northern Gaza, who, according to the military, was planning attacks against IDF forces operating in the Strip.
The strike was carried out with the approval of IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir. It was the first time since the halt of the targeted-assassination policy in the Strip that a strike of this kind was carried out with his approval. The assassinations were halted on the instruction of the political leadership, following the roadmap for an agreement with Hamas published by the "Peace Council."
The IDF said the strike was carried out to remove the threat posed to the forces. It also said that IDF troops under Southern Command remain deployed in the area in accordance with the agreement, and that the military "will continue to act to remove any immediate threat."
