The Defense Ministry is seeking to open production lines for smart bombs for the Air Force, aiming to build greater independence and reduce reliance on other countries. This was reported Wednesday evening by Channel 12 News.

According to the report, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu supports the move and has approved the transfer of 40 billion shekels for the project. The Finance Ministry, however, is refusing to release the funds, while the Defense Ministry says the delay "is leading to the loss of a valuable year for procurement."

The approved plan includes all of Israel's defense industries, which will open new production lines for precision munitions and new smart bombs. The decision comes amid the current security situation. The IDF is seeking to complete its preparations in light of growing tensions between the United States and Iran, and the possibility that Israel may be required to act soon. In addition to producing bombs for the Air Force, Israel is also expanding production lines for Arrow interceptors.

As noted, the issue is currently the subject of disputes between the Defense Ministry and the Finance Ministry. Still, despite the budget tensions, Defense Ministry officials said they have decided to begin establishing the new production lines while continuing their battle with the Finance Ministry.
