Pro-Israel Senator Ted Cruz Says He Wants to Run for President

Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, known for his support for Israel, said overnight Wednesday into Thursday in an interview in the U.S. that he is interested in running to lead his party and for the presidency of the United States.

In an interview on the podcast of Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Cruz said: "It’s no secret that I want to be president." Asked whether he intends to run again, after first seeking the Republican nomination in 2016, he replied: "Time will tell."

As a reminder, last week Cruz made clear that, in his view, the Republican race for 2028 remains open, and that Vice President J.D. Vance, whom President Trump has mentioned as a possible successor, "is not Trump’s agreed-upon heir, and there will be a full discussion about who we are and what we believe. I will absolutely be part of that discussion."

It should be noted that alongside Vance and Cruz, Trump himself has mentioned Secretary of State Marco Rubio as one of the leading names ahead of the 2028 presidential race. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis may also make another attempt to run for president.
