Why Former Miss World Linor Abargil Chooses to Cover Her Hair

The mitzvot of tzniut and covering one’s hair can present real challenges, but for Israeli former Miss World and actress Linor Abargil, they also carry tremendous spiritual meaning. Abargil recently shared what she feels each time she puts on her head covering and why she believes even small steps in tzniut can bring tremendous light.

“The Mitzvot Simply Illuminate the Soul”

“Covering your head is one of the most challenging aspects of tzniut, in my view,” Abargil wrote. “But I want to tell you that every time I put on a covering, I feel as though there is some kind of spotlight of light shining on me. I don’t even know how to explain it. Those who wear one may understand, or maybe you can see it yourselves... It’s something different.”

Abargil then addressed her followers, adding: “The mitzvot simply illuminate the soul. They illuminate the soul.”

Recently, Abargil has been sharing messages of encouragement with her followers, particularly about tzniut and the spiritual significance she finds in it.

“I want to remind you, my beautiful one, that you are most beautiful when you are modest,” she said in a video posted online that went viral. “There is nothing like tzniut. And for every second that you cover your head, you have no idea what you are doing in Heaven, how much light it brings into your life, how much light it brings into the world, and how much reward you have.”

“Be Proud of Yourself”

Abargil encouraged women to appreciate every step they take, no matter how small it may seem.

“Be proud of yourself—for every centimeter you add to your shirt or skirt, or for every smallest thing. You should be the proudest of yourself in the world. You are the most beautiful in the world.”
