Protest Activist Faces Terror Incitement Charge Over Posts Targeting Netanyahu

Prosecutors have decided to file an indictment, pending a hearing, against Dr. Yolanda Yavor, a protest activist opposed to the government, on a charge of incitement to terrorism. The news was reported this evening by Channel 13. According to the report, Yavor was arrested about 10 months ago after posting two messages targeting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. 

The decision was made with the approval of Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara and State Attorney Amit Aisman. According to the report, Yavor cited, as an example of a move that could bring Netanyahu down from power, the armed uprising that led to the execution of Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu. 

In one of the posts, she wrote: "The only choice before us is to be, meaning, to fight the traitor, the mouthpieces, the damned collaborators, and his Freikor de la-shmatte militias with all our strength and by every means, or to cease. Choose correctly, my brothers and sisters. There will be no second round. We said, 'democracy or rebellion,' remember? So, come on, rebellion. But a real one, imported from Romania, not AliExpress-meets-Kaplan." At the end of the post, she wrote: "A dictatorship cannot be brought down at the ballot box," "Netanyahu is a traitor," and "We're coming to take you away."

Yavor is a biblical scholar, a teaching fellow at Tel Aviv University, and a protest activist opposed to the government. Her attorney, Oshrat Kirma, said: "There is no doubt that the motives are political. The prosecution should know that this case must be closed, and we will continue fighting until that is clear to everyone."

In another case, according to a report by i24NEWS, an indictment was filed against an Israeli from East Jerusalem who sold a weapon to a terrorist who planned to murder National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. The weapon's buyer, Rashid Rishk, is a Hamas terrorist who was released in the hostage deal. The indictment charges Muhammad Salehab, an East Jerusalem resident who holds a blue Israeli ID card, with arms trafficking and attempting to advance weapons deals for terrorist purposes.
