Report: Houthis Target Major Saudi Oil Facilities

The Financial Times reported Monday afternoon that oil facilities belonging to Saudi oil company Aramco in the city of Jizan were attacked last month. According to the report, the attack was similar in scale to the previous attack about a month earlier, when the company was forced to partially halt production at the refinery. The Saudis refrained from releasing information on the matter.

The newspaper noted that the attack was carried out using explosive drones and was carried out by Yemen’s Houthi rebels. It also said that, if the attacks continue, they will threaten the stability of the global oil supply. This was the second attack on a complex in Jazan in about two weeks. An attack on July 27 forced the refinery, which has a capacity of 400,000 barrels per day, to temporarily shut down operations entirely.

As a reminder, throughout 2026, Houthi forces targeted numerous critical energy sites in Saudi Arabia, including the Abqaiq crude oil stabilization plant and facilities near Yanbu. Each attack led to temporary shutdowns, although Saudi authorities consistently claimed that no single incident materially affected total oil production or the country’s financial position.

Aramco CEO Amin Nasser publicly emphasized the company’s operational resilience. According to Nasser, production and export schedules were quickly restored after each incident, and the disruptions were limited in scope.
