Argentina’s Milei Defends Alliance With Jerusalem: “Israel Upholds Western Values”

Argentine President Javier Milei gave an interview overnight Monday into Tuesday to French television network TF1, defending his closer ties with Israel and the United States. “I decided to join the camp of the United States and Israel. Israel upholds Western values.”

Milei also incorporated quotations and passages from the Book of Exodus and the Torah into the interview, calling it “the most important story of liberation in human history,” and compared Moses and Aaron’s confrontation with Pharaoh to modern geopolitical dynamics.

The remarks join a series of clearly pro-Israel actions and statements by Milei since he was elected, including describing Israel as “a fortress of the West,” declaring Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to be terrorist organizations, and making official visits to Israel.

Ahead of his upcoming visit to France for “Argentina Week,” Milei outlined his geopolitical worldview, explaining that the world is now divided into three main blocs: the United States, China, and Russia. He defended Donald Trump against criticism in Europe, claiming that Trump “weakens the West,” and argued that the Old Continent is “sinking.” According to Milei, “the opposite is true.” He added: “I understand why he is not appreciated in Europe, because Europe’s position is not especially practical, because Europe is not comfortable with the truth. It is sinking.”

“Europe is overregulated. Europe has stagnated and cannot grow with a welfare state that is truly distorted,” Milei declared.

In the interview, he described Europe’s current condition as “a slow and cowardly death,” pointing to statism, overregulation, “wokeness,” and the immigration crisis. Wokeness is a term used to describe a progressive worldview focused on heightened social awareness and the fight against discrimination, racism, and inequality.
