Vance: Goal Is to “Completely Destroy” Iran’s Nuclear Infrastructure

U.S. media reported today (Tuesday) that President Donald Trump plans to hold meetings on the war with Iran with leaders who arrived in New York to take part in the U.N. General Assembly.

Speaking with reporters after his meeting with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Trump said: “They will not have nuclear weapons. Let’s put it that way... and they are not in good shape. I will have meetings about it today.”

Trump’s vice president, J.D. Vance, spoke with Newsmax and laid out the U.S. administration’s goal regarding Iran’s nuclear program. Vance made clear that, from Washington’s perspective, the objective is not limited to an immediate blow to Tehran’s capabilities, but rather creating a situation in which Iran will be unable to rebuild the infrastructure needed to develop nuclear weapons in the years ahead.

“What the U.S. president is trying to ensure is that they will not have the resources and will not have the infrastructure to rebuild the program. The goal is that even two years, three years, or 10 years from now, Iran will not have the capability needed to develop nuclear weapons,” Vance said.

The vice president also addressed the possibility that Tehran might try to quickly resume its nuclear efforts. According to him, the administration assesses that Iran is unable to obtain nuclear weapons within just a few months, even if it decides to try.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian was granted permission to enter the United States to attend the U.N. General Assembly. Before leaving for New York, he said: “We will present to the United Nations the crimes committed against the Iranian people. People cannot be forced into obedience by force. What is happening in Gaza, Palestine, Syria, Yemen, Iran, and elsewhere exposes the truth. The steadfast Iranian people will always defend their homeland and their principles.”
