Three Years Into the War: 1,318 Israeli Security Personnel Have Fallen Since October 7

Ahead of the national Memorial Day, Israel’s Defense Ministry released updated figures: More than 7,150 family members have joined the bereaved community, including parents, widows, orphans, and siblings. State ceremonies will be held tomorrow.

Three years after the “War of Revival,” Israel’s Defense Ministry released today (Sunday) its count of those killed in the war: 1,318 members of Israel’s security forces have fallen since October 7, 2023.

More than 7,150 family members have joined the bereaved community, including 2,143 bereaved parents, 355 widows, 880 orphans, and 3,772 bereaved brothers and sisters. The fallen include members of the IDF, Israel Police, Shin Bet, Israel Prison Service, Fire and Rescue Services, community security coordinators, and members of local emergency response teams who fought in the Gaza Strip, southern Israel, northern Israel, Lebanon, and Judea and Samaria.

Tomorrow, Monday, Israel will mark three years since the massacre. The state events will include two official ceremonies: The first, organized by the Defense Ministry, will take place at 11:00 a.m. at the Plaza of the Greats of the Nation on Mount Herzl, attended by President Isaac Herzog, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Defense Minister Israel Katz, who are also expected to speak. Also attending will be IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, Police Commissioner Daniel Levy, Shin Bet chief David Zini, Mossad chief Roman Gofman, government ministers, and representatives of bereaved families.

The second ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. that day at the Memorial Site for Victims of Hostile Acts on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. It will be attended by Israel’s top leaders and will also include speeches.
