Israeli television personality Tsufit Grant has been growing increasingly connected to Judaism and religious observance in recent years. She married singer Shuli Rand, and recently appears to have taken additional steps toward adopting a more modest style of dress.
During a conversation with chef Haim Cohen on a program aired on Israel’s Kan public broadcaster, Grant was asked how she and Rand had managed to build such a successful relationship.
"It was easy for us. First of all, we're very similar in our sense of humor, love, and gentleness. Shuli is such a gentle person, and so am I. I'm also a very Torah-oriented person," she explained.
"I've been studying Kabbalah for 36 years, independently of Shuli. When he came into my life, I turned my entire Torah outlook into something practical, into a way of life. You can't live with an ultra-Orthodox man and turn on the television on Friday night, bring chametz into the house on Passover, bring in non-kosher food, or fail to keep separate sets of cutlery. He simply couldn't live in that kind of environment."
Addressing the differences between them, Grant added, "I can live with all those religious boundaries. So yes, I might not get up and go to synagogue every time. But when you live with a worldview based on respect, it makes everything so much easier. And apparently, there's something fundamental in who I am that is deeply drawn to the Torah world."
Grant also spoke warmly about her visits to the predominantly ultra-Orthodox city of Bnei Brak.
"It's a very special city. I enjoy seeing the people there. I truly love Judaism, and I have a deep love for Jewish people. I love the atmosphere of Jewish life in the streets. That's why bringing Shuli into my life felt so completely natural to me."
