The strike hit a major oil terminal in St. Petersburg. Ukraine has rejected President Donald Trump’s demand to stop attacking Russian energy infrastructure, saying Russia has since struck 72 energy facilities across Ukraine.

On Sunday, Ukraine carried out one of its largest drone attacks of the year against Russia. The strike began overnight, after Shabbat ended, and lasted for hours, hitting a major oil terminal in St. Petersburg among other targets. The Russians reported one person killed and several injured.

Last week, US President Donald Trump “demanded” that Ukraine stop attacking Russian energy infrastructure. The Ukrainians say that since Trump’s statement, Russia has struck 72 energy facilities across Ukraine and killed more than 50 people.

The Russian Defense Ministry claimed it shot down no fewer than 1,015 Ukrainian drones across the country on Sunday. Even so, the St. Petersburg oil terminal, which handles up to 12.5 million tons a year, was hit. Fire Point, the Ukrainian company that manufactures the drones used in the attack, said a fire broke out at the terminal after the strike.

A logistics center in St. Petersburg was also attacked, according to the Russian e-commerce company Ozon. One person was killed and five were wounded in the strikes, which also damaged homes.

“The US needs to see that Russia is not taking reciprocal steps in response to sanctions relief or agreements,” Zelensky said. “On the contrary, they see every sign of an opportunity to make money as proof that their bet on war is paying off and that they can keep fighting.”

Trump recently suspended sanctions on Russian diesel imports, and on Friday he activated a waiver exempting Russia from sweeping economic sanctions imposed by the US Congress, a move that drew criticism even from Republicans.

Ukraine reported that, in response to the strike deep inside Russia, the Russian army attacked targets in many cities across Ukraine on Sunday, killing 13 people.
