Iran's Foreign Ministry issued a travel warning Monday night to Iranian citizens staying in France, Belgium and Italy, amid riots and protests across parts of Europe. The warning comes as Iran itself is grappling with war, a severe economic crisis and fears of renewed domestic protests against the regime.

According to a report by the Iranian news agency ISNA, the Foreign Ministry's public relations department urged Iranian citizens living in or visiting the three countries to stay away from protest sites and areas experiencing heightened security tensions. It also recommended avoiding "unnecessary travel" in areas affected by unrest.

In its statement, the ministry warned of the possibility of further escalation, which could lead to movement restrictions and significant disruptions to public transportation. Citizens were advised to check security and transportation updates before traveling and to keep the contact details of Iranian diplomatic missions in the three countries readily available.

The warning was issued following claims in France linking the war in Iran to the wave of protests in the country. Among other factors, rising fuel prices following the war were cited as a major contributor to the growing public unrest.

Meanwhile, reports also emerged alleging that social media accounts linked to Iranian elements had spread "fake news" and disinformation that contributed to the unrest.
