Teen Survives Bear Attack Thanks to an Unexpected Twist

A 15-year-old boy from Russia's Altai region survived a terrifying bear attack after his phone was damaged and reportedly caught fire during the struggle, frightening the animal and causing it to retreat.

According to local media reports, the unexpected flames may have saved the teenager's life. However, the incident also left him with a burn in addition to the severe injuries he sustained during the attack.

The boy had gone with a friend to a wooded area to check on beehives when they unexpectedly encountered a bear. One of the boys managed to run away, while the other attempted to escape by climbing a tree.

The bear shook the tree, knocking the teenager to the ground before attacking him. The boy suffered multiple bites and serious injuries to his head and body.

During the struggle, the phone in his back pocket was damaged. According to a report in The Sun, the bear bit the area where the device was located, causing its battery to explode. The sudden noise and flames apparently startled the animal, which then slowly moved away.

Meanwhile, the teenager's friend called emergency services, and the injured boy was taken for urgent medical treatment.

Teen Undergoes Emergency Brain Surgery

According to the local news agency Bankfax, the teenager was treated at the Central City Hospital in Biysk, where a CT scan revealed injuries requiring immediate surgery.

Hospital director Sergei Kobyazin said the operation lasted more than three hours.

"The team treated the wounds and the head injuries, including removing blood buildup in the brain," he explained.

According to Kobyazin, the most challenging injuries involved the teenager's head, scalp, facial bones, and neck.

"He is on a ventilator. His condition is defined as serious but stable, and we are evaluating the next stages of treatment, including the possibility of additional surgeries," the hospital director said.

While the teenager remains seriously injured, reports suggest that the unexpected fire from his damaged phone may have played a crucial role in ending the attack.
