US President Donald Trump told reporters Thursday that “Iran will soon be on our list of victories, like Venezuela.” Meanwhile, US media reported that the administration has yet to respond to an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for lifting the American naval blockade on Iranian ports.

Britain’s The Times reported that the US has asked its allies in the Persian Gulf to prepare for renewed strikes against Iran. At the same time, US Vice President JD Vance sent a letter to Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, stressing that “any negotiations require a discussion of the nuclear issue.”

The letter marks the highest-level direct communication from the United States to Iran in several months. It comes as President Trump weighs resuming large-scale military operations against Iran following the US midterm elections.

Trump told reporters that Vance’s letter addressed Iran’s need for medical supplies. “Basically, it’s about bringing in supplies to help people who are not in good health,” Trump said.

In recent days, reports have increasingly pointed to the possibility of renewed US strikes against Iran, along with preparations reportedly being made by the American military. Last Friday, during a rally in Fort Myers, Florida, Trump raised the possibility of further military action, saying, “We may carry out another little ‘Epic Fury.’”
