Investigators are seeking to clarify the procedures, regulations, and guidelines governing the issuance of security approvals and clearances to foreign airlines operating in Israel.
External Security Contractor Under Investigation
According to the report, the investigation is focusing in part on an external contractor responsible for providing services related to aviation security approvals. The contractor is among those suspected of involvement in a case concerning alleged deficiencies in aviation security procedures.
The suspect is affiliated with an external service provider rather than being directly employed by the Transportation Ministry. Investigators are examining whether the contractor also provided services to other airlines and whether security failures occurred in connection with the Flydubai flight, particularly regarding security checks that may not have been properly conducted, or carried out at all, by the responsible party.
Police believe that testimony from the Transportation Ministry employee could help clarify how the aviation security system operates, the nature of its relationship with the external contractor, and the procedures that should govern the required security inspections.
Investigation Follows Foiled Flydubai Attack
The investigation was launched several days after an attempted attack aboard a Flydubai flight was thwarted. Authorities are examining suspicions of security negligence and conflicts of interest within the civilian aviation security system.
One of the central allegations is that senior officials responsible for overseeing civilian aviation security maintained business relationships with foreign companies they were expected to supervise.
Investigators are working to determine whether these alleged relationships compromised the independence of security oversight and whether failures in the screening process contributed to vulnerabilities surrounding the Flydubai flight.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations have not been established in court.
