A cruise ship operated by Israeli company Mano Maritime, carrying approximately 1,400 Israelis, was detained Tuesday evening near the Greek island of Syros following an anonymous report of a suspicious object on board. Local security forces are conducting searches throughout the vessel after receiving information alleging that three bombs had been planted on the ship.

Israel’s Shin Bet security agency, Mossad, and local Greek security authorities are cooperating in the investigation. So far, no explosive devices or suspicious objects have been discovered. Authorities are expected to allow the ship to resume its journey to Israel within the next few hours.

The incident appears to mark an expansion of a recent wave of bomb threats targeting flights to and from Israel, which has now reportedly extended to the cruise industry. In the past, pro-Palestinian activists have staged protests and confronted vessels operated by Mano Maritime over their arrival at Greek islands. Greek authorities have also previously investigated suspected terrorist cells allegedly planning attacks against Israeli targets in the country.

Over the past two years, vessels operated by Israeli shipping companies have been attacked in the Persian Gulf, the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, and the Black Sea. Most recently, on October 29, 2026, the Greek-owned container ship Contship Jet, operating for Israeli shipping company ZIM, was reportedly attacked by three maritime drones in the Black Sea and sank while traveling from the Port of Haifa to Romania.

The attack is believed to have been linked to tensions in the Black Sea stemming from the Russia-Ukraine war rather than the vessel’s connection to Israel. All 18 crew members—14 Filipino nationals and four Ukrainians—were safely rescued and brought to the Bulgarian city of Varna. The ship’s cargo of 421 containers sank along with the vessel.
