Reuters quoted senior U.S. officials Thursday morning as saying that the likelihood of renewed war with Iran has increased, arguing that President Donald Trump has little left to lose politically following the Republican Party's defeat in this week's midterm elections.

"The likelihood of war with Iran is now high. Trump has nothing left to lose politically," the officials reportedly stated.

According to the report, Trump is considering resuming military strikes against Iran despite the Republican Party's electoral setback. Last week, the president received a briefing from Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command, during which he was presented with plans for renewed military operations against Tehran.

Several American media outlets have also reported in recent days that, according to U.S. intelligence assessments, additional strikes against Iran are unlikely to significantly change Tehran's negotiating position or bring about the collapse of the Iranian regime.

Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reported overnight Wednesday into Thursday that the U.S. military had conducted a series of limited strikes inside Iran in recent weeks without publicly announcing them. The operations reportedly targeted missile launchers and other military equipment, with an emphasis on avoiding casualties.

According to the report, officials in the Trump administration agreed to keep the military operations confidential out of concern that public disclosure could harm Republican candidates in the midterm elections. Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were reportedly among the senior administration officials informed of the operations.

The reports come amid growing uncertainty over Washington's next steps toward Tehran, as the Trump administration weighs further military action despite intelligence assessments questioning whether additional strikes would achieve significant political or strategic results.
