The Houthis are demanding $51 billion in compensation from Saudi Arabia for war-related damages, along with official recognition of their authority over all of Yemen, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday. The demands were reportedly presented during negotiations aimed at reaching an agreement to end the longstanding conflict between the two sides.

According to the Houthis, the compensation is necessary to cover the damage caused by Saudi airstrikes and the prolonged blockade. The Iran-backed group is also demanding that Riyadh accept the presence of an armed Iranian-backed force along its southern border.

Houthi Offensive Threatens Yemen's Government Stronghold

The conflict between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia has continued for approximately a decade. Three months ago, tensions escalated significantly as Houthi forces launched attacks against Saudi oil facilities and airports, alongside a military offensive that resulted in territorial gains.

The Houthis are now advancing toward Aden, the seat of Yemen's internationally recognized government. Their forces recently reached positions approximately 80 kilometers from the city, marking their closest approach since 2015.

The continued attacks on Saudi infrastructure have also raised concerns about investor confidence in the kingdom, as strikes against critical facilities threaten economic stability.

Drone and Missile Attacks Target Saudi Arabia

On Wednesday, reports emerged of drones and a missile launched toward the international airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia's capital. No casualties or damage were reported.

Earlier this week, reports indicated that 26 security incidents had occurred across Saudi territory, reflecting the continued escalation in hostilities.

The latest developments underscore the challenges facing efforts to negotiate a lasting settlement, as the Houthis seek substantial financial compensation and political recognition while continuing their military operations in Yemen and against Saudi targets.
