IllustrationU.S. President Donald Trump is considering ordering another military strike against Iran as American forces in the Middle East finalize preparations for a large-scale operation. According to a Fox News report, Trump held discussions at the White House on Wednesday and Thursday with senior defense officials and his national security team. However, no decision has yet been made on whether to resume the strikes.
Meanwhile, Iran has submitted a proposal for a nuclear agreement through Qatar, demanding compensation for war-related damages, the lifting of sanctions, and an end to the naval blockade. These developments come amid an increase in attacks on vessels in the region and a sharp rise in oil prices.
U.S. officials noted that November 9 is expected to mark the new moon in the Middle East, when darker conditions could provide an advantage for certain military operations. However, there have been no reports of a decision to launch an attack on that date.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump addressed the future of Iran’s nuclear program: “Do we want to go further with the strikes to make sure Iran’s nuclear program is dead and that this never happens again?” He later warned: “I would prefer not to destroy the rest of the country if possible, but I may have to. You’ll find out very soon.”
Trump claimed that the United States controls “everything we wanted to control,” described the American presence in the region as “effectively an occupation,” and declared: “They don’t do anything without our approval.” He also suggested that rebuilding Iran could take 25 years.
The American president also questioned whether the confrontation should be classified as a war, comparing it to the wars in Vietnam and Ukraine and noting that 18 Americans had been killed during the conflict. “I guess so. I don’t know if it’s a war, because nobody has been killed for many months,” he said.
Meanwhile, U.S. Central Command released footage on Thursday showing F-35A fighter jets refueling from a KC-135 Stratotanker during patrols over the Middle East, as American forces continued enforcing the blockade of Iranian ports.
