May a Sephardi Eat Chalak Meat Cooked in Vessels That Previously Cooked Non Chalak Meat?
Question
Honored Rabbi, hello,
I am a woman who has returned to observance and I live with my parents.
In my family, we keep meat and dairy separate, but we are not stringent about eating chalak meat. (We are Sephardi.)
May I eat the meat in the house?
If chalak meat is purchased, is there a problem eating it if it was cooked in vessels that previously cooked non-chalak meat?
Regarding a barbecue grill, is it permitted to eat chicken if non-chalak meats had been placed on the grill according to chalak standards?
Thank you very much!!
Answer
Hello,
If you do not know whether non-chalak meat was cooked in the vessels within the past 24 hours, you may eat the chalak meat. And you are not required to investigate whether such meat was cooked in them within the past 24 hours; as long as you do not know for certain, you may eat it. This applies as well to a barbecue grill.
