If Someone Stays Up All Night and Goes to Sleep in the Morning, Then Wakes Up at Noon, Does He Need to Wash Hands With a Blessing?

AA

Question

Hello, honored rabbi.

If someone stayed up all night and went to sleep in the morning after daybreak, at around 6 or 7, and woke up at noon, does he need to wash his hands with a blessing? And if he wakes in the evening after sunset, does he wash with a blessing?

Answer

To the esteemed questioner,

Sorry for the delay in replying.

In both cases, he washes without a blessing, like someone who went to sleep during the day.

Only one who sleeps at night and wakes toward the beginning of the day in the morning, before Shacharit, recites a blessing over the washing, because then the washing is also a preparation for the Shacharit prayer.

With blessings,

Rabbi Nachum
