Prayer and Blessings
Opening Psalms According to Kabbalah
Question
First, I would like to bless you for the important and great initiative of answering users' questions! Strengthen and support it! I asked Rabbi Zamir Cohen: Is it permissible according to Kabbalah to open Psalms in order to help people and not for financial gain? Because as I understand it, one can open (of course, by a person who Hashem has sent with the knowledge to do so).... I would appreciate your response.
Answer
Hello
Thank you for the blessing. The concept of opening a book or opening Psalms does not have a source in the texts; I generally think it comes from the practice of opening cards and the like.
It is true that there were certain righteous individuals who, when asked, would open the Torah and try to learn from the verse they saw, but that was only because of the power of their holiness and their ability to understand how the answer was hinted at in the verse that was opened.
There is a concept of the Gaon's lot, which is done by a specific search in the Tanakh; I have elaborated on this in the past in the column, and you can search in the answer database.
