Vanished for Decades: The Enigmatic Return of Vasily Gorgos

Vasily Gorgos, now 95, vanished mysteriously from his Romanian home, considered missing for 30 years. As a cattle breeder, Vasily frequently left home for days to sell his goods, always keeping in touch with his family. But one fateful day in 1991, he set off for work and was never heard from again. His worried family contacted the police, which led to extensive searches, but Vasily left no trace. Days stretched into months, and soon years. His family had resigned themselves to the belief that Vasily was no longer alive and they would never discover what became of him, even holding an annual memorial service in his honor.

In a surprising turn of events, Vasily reappeared at the gate of his farm in 2021—escorted there by someone who quickly drove off. The elderly Vasily seemed confused and disoriented but otherwise in fair health.

Local media reports indicate that Vasily underwent a battery of medical tests to assess his health following his inexplicable disappearance so many years ago. Physically, he was in good condition for his age, though some neurological issues were detected. Despite that, Vasily remains unable to recall what transpired during the three decades he was missing.

Vasily remembers being born in 1928 and is aware that his wife has passed away but could not recognize his son and daughter. His son did not recognize him either, having not seen him for 30 years. "We can't understand him. He doesn't know what he's saying. He talks about his days raising and selling cattle. We ask one thing, and he answers something else. Who knows where he was and who took care of him? Who can know what kind of life he lived during that time?" his son expressed.
