The Largest Physics Project in History

Did you know that the biggest project in the history of physics is the Large Hadron Collider (LHC)? Located in Switzerland, it is the largest particle accelerator in the world and represents the most ambitious scientific endeavor ever undertaken in terms of global collaboration. More than 5,000 physicists from over 40 countries participated in its design, alongside thousands of engineers and technicians. Its total cost is estimated to exceed 5 billion euros, making it the second-largest investment in the history of science, after the moon landing and U.S. space programs. While the idea originated around forty years ago, bringing it to life required significant resources and decades of effort.

A Colossal Machine for Tiny Particles

The LHC is truly a marvel of engineering. Its circular tunnel stretches 27 kilometers in length and accelerates protons to an astonishing energy of 7 trillion electron volts—that’s 7,461 times the rest energy of a proton. These particles reach 99.9999991% of the speed of light. While the machine may seem like an abstract playground for physicists, its experiments aim to answer some of the most fundamental questions about the universe, tracing the secrets of its origin and the nature of matter itself.

From Particles to Purpose

At first glance, one might wonder why we should care about these foreign scientists and their work on protons, bosons, and the Higgs particle. But one of these researchers is an Israeli physicist, Daniel Turgeman, from the Weizmann Institute. For him, the LHC is more than just a machine, it is a window into the divine. While he observes particles and accelerators, what he primarily sees is the hand of the Creator.

Science Through the Lens of Faith

In his articles and lectures, Turgeman demonstrates how the discoveries he contributes to reveal evidence of Hashem's hand in creation. He shows how every accelerated particle reflects a guiding force and how the descriptions in the Torah correspond with the cutting-edge discoveries in particle physics. As he explains in his article published in Migdarim:

"The text of the creation narrative contains a precise verbal description of the cosmological processes that created our universe. Every noun, verb, and connector in the text has a necessary meaning for describing these processes. Additionally, the text addresses one of the major open questions in science today."

Listening to Science and Faith

For those who seek to understand the universe through science, Daniel Turgeman offers a unique perspective; seeing the Creator through the most advanced scientific research available. His work bridges faith and physics, showing that exploration of the smallest particles can also illuminate the grandest truths.
