The young man, Yehuda Shmuel Sherman HY"D, 18, a resident of Elon Moreh, was struck by a Palestinian vehicle while riding an ATV on the route between Homesh and Shavei Shomron.
The army initially believed it was a traffic accident, but following findings at the scene the investigation is focusing on the possibility that it was a terror attack. An initial probe indicates that two brothers, who were riding an off-road vehicle, were surprised by a Palestinian car that sped toward them from the village of Beit Imrin and hit them.
Shmuel is survived by his parents, Yehoshua, the deputy chairman of KKL, and Sima, and six brothers and sisters. His brother who was with him was moderately injured. Yossi Dagan, head of the Shomron Regional Council, said: "This is a very difficult event. We embrace and strengthen the family members. We face a murderous and barbaric enemy whose goal is to murder Jews and, as a result, drive them from their land. I say clearly from here: we will never break! We will only grow stronger and build even more in the northern Shomron — and all of our Eretz Yisrael."
From the Elon Moreh community committee it was stated: "Baruch Dayan HaEmet. With shock and great pain, we announce the murder of our friend Yehuda Shmuel Sherman HY"D, son of Yehoshua and Sima. Yehuda Shmuel and his brother Daniel yibadel l'chaim were on a patrol around the Shuva Yisrael farm near Homesh; a terrorist struck their Ranger and Yehuda was killed. Daniel was lightly to moderately wounded and is conscious. Our hearts are with the Sherman family in this difficult hour. Details on the time of the funeral will be sent later".
