The IDF Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, conducted an operational visit in southern Lebanon today (Wednesday) together with senior Northern Command officials and field commanders. During the tour, the Chief of Staff held a situational assessment, heard briefings from unit commanders, and spoke with the battalion commanders operating in the field.

During the visit, Zamir descended into a Hezbollah underground facility discovered about 25 meters below a children's clothing store. In his words, "We toured a Hezbollah terror tunnel, at a depth of about 25 meters beneath a children's clothing store that looks innocuous above ground. This is further proof that Hezbollah uses the civilian environment to carry out acts of terror under the cover of the population."

The Chief of Staff emphasized to the forces the importance of the mission on the ground and highlighted the extent of the damage to Hezbollah: "Since the start of Operation 'Lion's Roar,' more than 2,000 Hezbollah operatives have been eliminated. We will seize every opportunity to deepen the damage to Hezbollah and to weaken it continuously."

On the tensions with Iran he said: "We have a historic opportunity to change the regional reality in the multi-front campaign. Cooperation with the United States military and coordination continue at all times, and we are monitoring the situation. In Iran we have another series of targets ready for strike. We are at a high state of readiness to return to a powerful and wide campaign that will allow us to deepen our achievements and further weaken the Iranian regime."

In closing, the Chief of Staff praised the commanders and fighters, with an emphasis on reservists: "Great appreciation to you, the commanders, for your leadership, and especially to the reservists for your great dedication. You are on a forward line of defense; the IDF is the protective wall for the northern communities. We will not go backward until security is ensured and a long-term solution for the northern communities is achieved."
