Rafael Chair: Iron Dome Is Intercepting at "Almost 99%"

Yuval Steinitz, head of Rafael, says that since the 'Swords of Iron' war began in October 2023, Hamas and Hezbollah have fired about 40,000 rockets at Israel; he says Iron Dome intercepted most of them with near-100% success, and that in two rounds of fighting since 2024 only a few dozen Iranian missiles were not intercepted—denying any shortage of interceptors.

"Israel's 'Iron Dome' system has been nearly 99% effective against rockets from Hamas and Hezbollah and destroyed most of the missiles from Iran." So said today Yuval Steinitz, the chair of Rafael, the manufacturer of "Iron Dome".

Steinitz's remarks were made at a conference of the Jerusalem Center for Security and Foreign Affairs, and were quoted by Reuters. The Rafael chair added that "since Hamas's raid on Israel in October 2023 and the outbreak of the 'Swords of Iron' war, Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon have together fired about 40,000 rockets at Israel. 'Iron Dome' intercepted most of them with success rates that are not 100% but close to 100%. It's around 98%, even 99%, so it's not perfect, but almost".

Iran, he said, launched about 1,500 ballistic missiles toward Israel in two rounds of fighting since 2024. Steinitz noted that "only a few dozen were not intercepted." He denied various reports that were recently published in several media outlets and emphasized that "there was no shortage of interceptors in the missile-defense systems".
