IDF Officer Maoz Yisrael Rekanti Killed in Southern Lebanon, One Month Before Wedding

Capt. Maoz Yisrael Rekanti, 24, of Itamar, a platoon commander in Golani Brigade’s 12th Battalion, was killed in combat in southern Lebanon. He is the second soldier from the battalion to fall within 24 hours, and the 20th IDF casualty since the start of the ground maneuver in Lebanon following the launch of Operation "Lion’s Roar."

The IDF Spokesperson cleared for publication this evening (Saturday night, after Shabbat) the name of an IDF soldier killed in action, after his family had been notified.

The fallen soldier is Capt. Maoz Yisrael Rekanti, 24, from Itamar, a platoon commander in Battalion 12 of the Golani Brigade. He was killed yesterday in fighting in southern Lebanon. הי"ד. The officer was struck by an explosive drone launched by Hezbollah terrorists at an IDF force operating in the Litani River sector. A soldier from the battalion was lightly wounded in the incident.

The officer is the 20th IDF soldier to fall in Lebanon since the outbreak of "Lion’s Roar," and the seventh since the start of the ceasefire. Since the outbreak of the "Swords of Iron" war, 944 IDF soldiers have fallen.

Rekanti is survived by his parents and six siblings. The Samaria Regional Council said he was engaged to Roni, who studied with him at the midrasha in the community, and that the two were supposed to marry in about a month.

Samaria Regional Council head Yossi Dagan eulogized him: "Maoz was among the best of our sons, a brave officer and devoted fighter who dedicated his life to the security of the people of Israel. He was the son of a pioneering, deeply rooted family in Itamar, raised on the values of love for the land and devotion to the state. Our hearts are broken over a young life cut short just before building a home in Israel. All of Samaria bows its head and grieves with the dear family, embracing them in this difficult hour. His character and heroism will stay with us and give us strength to continue deepening and building life here."

Rekanti is the second IDF soldier from the same battalion to fall within 24 hours. Yesterday morning, it was cleared for publication that Staff Sgt. Negev Dagan, 20, from Moshav Dekel in the Gaza border region, a fighter in Golani Brigade’s 12th Battalion, was killed the day before when a mortar shell struck forces in the Litani area in southern Lebanon.
