This latest incident adds to a series of difficult events in the sector, foremost among them a deadly attack at the "Biranit" outpost, inside Israeli territory near the Lebanon border. Last night, it was cleared for publication that Staff Sgt. Noam Hamburger, 23, of Atlit, a technology and maintenance soldier in Battalion 9 of the "עקבות הברזל" (401) formation, was killed in the incident.
In that same incident in which Hamburger was killed, an IDF soldier was also seriously wounded and a noncommissioned officer was lightly wounded. The investigation found that Hezbollah launched two explosive drones at the outpost, located between Kibbutz Sasa and Moshav Netua, just one kilometer from the Lebanon border and inside Israeli territory. The attack took place shortly after 2:00 p.m.
According to the findings, the first drone struck the outpost directly and caused Staff Sgt. Hamburger's death. In addition, two other soldiers were wounded, one seriously and one moderately, and were evacuated for medical treatment at Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya. The second drone launched toward the area caused no casualties.
Meanwhile, the Air Force will hold a military exercise throughout the day along the northern coastal area. The announcement came from the IDF Spokesperson, who said that "as part of the exercise, there will be heavy movement of remotely piloted aircraft in the area. There is no concern over a security incident; in the event of a real incident, residents will be updated by the security forces."
