The Airplane That Thought It Was a Car: A Powerful Lesson About Discovering Your Potential

Sometimes the very qualities that make us feel different, burdened, or out of place are the ones that will help us soar. An inspiring story about self-worth, purpose, and learning to embrace your wings.

Once, I met an airplane that didn't know it was an airplane.

It wasn't really its fault. No one had ever told it that it was an airplane.

So it simply drove down the road like all the other cars.

Life wasn't easy for it.

I heard its cry: "Who needs these awkward wings? All the cars around me laugh at me. I have to be so careful every time I turn. These wings are so annoying. What good are they, anyway? They're just a burden. I wish I had been born normal, like everyone else, without these ridiculous wings."

I wanted to tell it: "My friend, listen to me. One day you'll reach the right place — a runway where you'll be able to accelerate with all your strength. And then you'll discover that those very wings you've complained about for so long are actually your greatest advantage.

One day you'll fly. And the sky will be the limit."

But I don't think it understood that I was speaking to it. It genuinely believed it was nothing more than an awkward, oversized car.

So I tried to comfort it another way. "This won't last forever. One day you'll discover what your wings are for. One day you'll be able to fly."

I truly hoped it would hear me.

The problem was that I wasn't speaking to it face to face. I was only writing these words in a column, and I worried that it might simply skim over them, turn the page, and move on to the next article without realizing that, through a remarkable act of Divine providence, these words had found their way to it.

So I prayed that perhaps now it would stop. Perhaps it would read these lines again.

Perhaps it would understand that this is not merely a story in a newsletter, but a message meant specifically for it.

For Those Who Haven't Discovered Their Wings Yet

This is dedicated with love to all the dear readers who feel worn down by life's endless race and whose wings have not yet revealed themselves.

Don't let anyone clip your wings.

One day, you may discover that the very things that make you feel different, awkward, or burdened today are actually the qualities that will allow you to soar.

You are not a broken car struggling to fit in. You may simply be an airplane that has not yet reached its runway.

And when that day comes, you'll finally understand that the wings were never the problem.

They were the gift.
