Eight undocumented residents were found this morning (Tuesday) hidden inside a double wall concealed in the rear section of a commercial vehicle at the Tunnels Checkpoint in Jerusalem. The smuggling attempt was foiled by Border Police fighters from the Jerusalem envelope unit and Jerusalem District police officers, who were operating on the basis of intelligence received in advance.

According to reports, the David precinct of the Jerusalem District received information about an intention to smuggle undocumented residents into Israel. Following that information, Border Police fighters from the Jerusalem envelope unit deployed forces at the Tunnels Checkpoint and stopped a suspicious commercial vehicle. When the vehicle was stopped, the driver tried to flee from the forces. After a short chase, he was arrested by Border Police fighters.

In a search of the vehicle, the fighters discovered the double wall hidden in the rear section, and inside it they found eight suspects packed tightly together. A check carried out at the scene found that all eight were residents of Tulkarm, Nablus, and Jenin who had attempted to enter Israel illegally. All eight suspects were arrested at the scene.

The driver, a resident of Anata in his 30s, was also arrested on suspicion of transporting and smuggling undocumented residents. All of the suspects, the driver and the eight undocumented residents, were transferred for further investigation to the David precinct of the Jerusalem District.
