At Jerusalem Checkpoint, Unauthorized Resident Found Hiding Inside Trunk Speaker

During an operational activity carried out by Border Police officers in the Jerusalem perimeter together with crossing-point officers, an unusual attempt to smuggle an unauthorized resident through one of the crossings was uncovered last night (Shabbat). During a routine inspection of a vehicle arriving at the crossing, the officers noticed an item that raised their suspicions: a speaker placed in the trunk in a way that appeared unusual.

The suspicion led the forces to conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle, particularly the speaker itself. During the search, it became clear that it was a pre-prepared hiding place, and a person was found concealed inside the speaker. Police noted that the side of the speaker was also obscured by a baby seat positioned in the vehicle, in an effort to camouflage the hiding place and make it harder to detect during the inspection.

After the suspect was extracted, it became clear that he was an unauthorized resident. The vehicle's driver was also arrested after he was suspected of transporting him in an attempt to get him through the crossing without being detected.

The two were transferred for further handling by the Investigations and Intelligence Office of the Jerusalem perimeter Border Police, where an investigation was opened to examine the circumstances of the incident and the suspicions against them.

Police stressed that the case joins a series of enforcement operations carried out by Border Police officers recently across all sectors. As part of these operations, the force's officers arrested approximately 460 unauthorized residents and “more than 60 additional suspects on suspicion of transporting, housing, and employing unauthorized residents.”
