Before the meeting, Trump spoke with reporters and focused mainly on the memorandum of understanding that was signed electronically with Iran.
Trump did not rule out the possibility of backing away from the agreement, saying: "Is the agreement final? No, it’s a memorandum of understanding. If I don’t like it, we’ll go back to shooting at them and dropping bombs on their heads. If they don’t behave properly, we’ll immediately go back to dropping bombs."
The American president added that the sides are expected to sign the memorandum this coming Friday in Switzerland. In his words, "It’s an excellent agreement for many reasons. But the first reason, and by an enormous margin — 99.9% of the issue — is that Iran will never have nuclear weapons. Iran cannot be allowed to have nuclear weapons. And so it will never have nuclear weapons. It’s a very strong agreement. Nobody yet knows exactly what’s written in it, but it’s very strong."
In response to a question about whether the agreement includes a $300 billion development fund to be given to Iran, he replied: "That’s not true. People can invest if they want. We are not investing in Iran, and we are not putting up even 10 cents. People can decide to invest if they want, but that’s their decision. I will not ask the Gulf states to invest, but if they do — fine."
