When the sea eventually receded, the exposed rock began to change. Wind, rain, snow, and ice gradually wore away the softer layers, while the harder rock remained standing. Over time, these natural forces sculpted hundreds of towering stone pillars, each with its own distinctive shape and character.

A Landscape That Changes With the Seasons

One of the most remarkable features of the Stone Forest is how dramatically it transforms throughout the year.

In summer, the towering gray pillars rise above the blue waters of the Lena River, surrounded by lush green forests. During winter, heavy snow blankets the landscape, giving the towering formations the appearance of a vast ice palace.

At sunrise and sunset, the stone pillars glow in shades of gold, orange, and red, creating spectacular views that make the area a favorite destination for nature photographers.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site

In 2012, the park was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in recognition of its outstanding geological significance and extraordinary natural beauty.
