Russian missiles and drones struck Kyiv in the early hours of Monday morning, causing extensive damage to residential buildings and other structures. At least nine people were killed and 46 others were injured, including five children. Meanwhile, another person was killed in the Bucha district, northwest of the Ukrainian capital.

Rescue teams continue to search the affected areas, and officials believe the death toll may still rise.

Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, said, "So far, nine people have been confirmed dead and 46 injured as a result of the Russian attack, including five injured children." He added, "Unfortunately, this is not the final number. Rescue operations are still ongoing."

Russia's Ministry of Defense confirmed that it had carried out a "large-scale" strike against Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine using long-range weapons and drones. In a statement published on Telegram, the ministry claimed that the attacks targeted military facilities and energy infrastructure in and around the capital, as well as military airfields in several other regions across Ukraine.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that emergency crews were working to rescue residents trapped in buildings that were severely damaged during the overnight bombardment. According to Klitschko, the intensity of the strikes left numerous buildings in ruins.

The latest attack comes just days after at least 27 people were killed in a Russian strike on Kyiv overnight between Wednesday and Thursday—the deadliest attack on the Ukrainian capital since the beginning of the year.
